Hi, I'm new to the forum but I figured this was the place to go to learn what it is I need to know. We are in the midst of purchasing a toy poodle. It is the families very first pet. I must admit I am a little intimidated. I don't know much about dogs and nothing about toy poodles. Is there any tips or things a girl should know before she picks up that toy poodle? |

Yes you should know you picked the best breed ever.
Lot of Patience for such a tiny pet is in order.....how old is she or he and how much does she or he weigh?
If I were you I would buy a small blanket and give it to the breeder and ask if it would be ok for the mom dog to sleep with it.......so when you take your fur baby home it could have the mom's scent. |

They grow like weeds, take LOTS of pictures. Later on, you'll forget they were ever that small (and obedient! ) lol.
Be sure to start your pup on a good food, commercials and the picts on the bags are almost always misleading! Iams, Beneful, science diet, there shown off as being great, but there all complete and utter junk. Look up there ingredients, then go look at the ingredients on the dog foods in the link, you'll believe me. This site ( http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showcat.php/cat/8 ) will show of the best of the best. The store Natural Paws sales a lot of these, if there's any by you, check it out.
Start training your pup as soon as it gets home, any puppy can learn come and sit. Just put it's food in a cup, and randomly call it when its out, treating it when it comes and sits. (at first crouch, and while letting in stare (or mouth) at the treat guide it's but down. Say 'Good Sit!') Shy'lo still (at 6 months!) has a reliable come from this training.
Make the first night easier on all of you by putting the pups crate as close as possible to you while you sleep. puppy goes from mom and many siblings, to a crate in an empty kitchen? there's really no question why they scream!
Your new at this dog owning thing, so feel free (and please do) ask as many questions as you have!
You wouldn't happen to have any picts would you? We'd love to see the pup! What are you going to call her?
Have fun, your going to love raising the pup! You don't know what you've been missing not having a dog!

Her name is Honey. I do have a pic but don't know how to put it up. We pick her up on Sunday. The kids and I are so excited. So, she sleeps in a crate. Thats good to know. What else should I know. How do you train them to use the outdoor facilites if you know what I mean. I have potty trained 2 kids so it can't be that difficult although somewhat frustrating I am sure. |

| Oh, here's a good question. What type of food do you feed your poodle? What would you recommend. I am in Canada in a somewhat rural community so I think I have no choice but to go commercial. |
