Hello Grace,
Your story is exactly what I want to do with my life and family! I was in a horrible accident 4 years ago and broke my back. After 3 years and 4 surgeries I am in recovery with the help of God my family and my animals. Now I want to give back. I want to find a wonderful little toypoodle to be a certified therapy dog that I can take to children's hospital and the local nursing home because I know the power of healing that a dog can provide to someone in need.
Since I can no longer work my son that is 10 and I are interested in getting a toypoodle to do agility with. This will give me something to do and be able to give back at the same time. Once you almost lose your life you realize what really is important!
However, my problem is I do not know where to start. I am looking for a toypoodle. We live in north central Arkansas and I don't care if we find a puppy or an adult or a rescue. If any one can give me a suggestion on how or where to start that would be wonderful. I will not buy from a puppy mill I am highly against puppy mills and believe they should all be put out of business. (Sorry I got off topic)
So Thank You for all the help on getting starting in agility with my own toypoodle Lynda
Lynda--good luck with agility and therapy training---
I was trying to think of who was near you--I know some poodle ladies in West TN and North MS if you like driving. Anyway, you might also the ad posting section on here, maybe check petfinder and the poodle rescue sights. Plus craigslist sometimes has some. What a nice idea you have on giving back to others and maybe even helping a poodle too. Please keep us informed...
...ok now I'm wondering what all Grace learned for tricks back then...anybody know? I love trick ideas.
Don't know anyone near you but there is a lot of resources now on line for people getting started. I love this company -you can rent videos from them like netflix - but all of it is "how to do stuff" and they have a complete selection of great dog agility videos from some of the best trainers in the world. You'd have a very good start by using these videos:
